About the Database
VIDWAN is the premier national database of profiles of scientists, researchers, and faculty members working at leading academic institutions and R&D organizations in India. Maintained by INFLIBNET Centre (An IUC of UGC), it serves as a central hub for identifying Indian scholarly expertise.
Purpose & Objectives
- Facilitate convenient access to expert data for peers and funding agencies.
- Enhance transparency in inviting experts for scientific activities.
- Direct communication channels with domain-specific authorities.
- Identify qualified peer reviewers for articles and research proposals.
- Foster information exchange and collaborative networking.
Data Processing Methodology
Collection & Registration
Experts register via the web interface. Mandatory fields include personal information, qualifications, professional experience, and academic accomplishments.
Validation & Activation
The Expert Database Team evaluates data for validity and eligibility. Once satisfied, the profile is activated (exp_status: 1) and made searchable.
Data Renewal Policy
- Persistent URL: Each expert receives a unique URL and credentials for real-time updates.
- Annual Audit: Experts are requested annually to confirm their interest and update data.
- Nodal Oversight: Institutional Nodal Officers can manage and update profiles for their respective organizations.
Eligibility Criteria
- Post-graduate/Doctorate with 15 years of professional experience.
- Associate Professor / Professor / Senior Scientist or equivalent.
- Recipient of National/International honours or awards.
Methods to Populate
Direction from regulatory bodies to universities and technical institutions.
Nodal Officers identify and nominate institutional experts to INFLIBNET.
Inviting laureates and fellows of national academies through direct communication.
Self-registration for qualified experts from R&D and academic sectors.
